USC IN GEELONG UPDATE
We are getting to the end of yet another season. Last night saw the top 4 teams play-off in essentially the elimination finals. The winners of the two matches play each other in the Grand Final next Monday night @ 7pm at the Leisure Centre.
The Croatia and USC teams were evenly matched. They exchanged powerful attacks with both sides providing support in defense which made for exciting and lengthy rallies. USC had a strong line-up and with the leadership of Anje Makohon took the first set. Croatia tightened up in the second and with a strong back line and coupled with the young line up of Dale Gordon, Ben Davidson and Brad Glynn, the attack was too much for USC. The rest of the match continued in the same manner with Semir Mustovic and Rob Straube providing the balance in the attack.
Syrena started off very confidently in the first two sets easily brushing aside Shados 25-11 and 25-10. In the third the over-confidence created a few issues for Syrena and before they could stem the side Shados clawed their way up to a win 29-27. The fourth set showed the depth of the talent in the Syrena line-up, lead by Mark Filipowicz and David Pundij, when they reverted to their methodical approach used in the first two sets and overcame any attacks from Shados and thus taking the match.
The results of the matches;
Croatia def USC Lion 3:1 - 24-26, 25-20, 25-20, 25-11
Syrena def Shados 3:1 - 25-11, 25-10, 27-29, 25-15
Next weeks match should be a well contested event and a worthwhile spectacle if both sides continue from last nights efforts.
The GRAND FINAL will be played at Leisuretime Centre starting 7.30pm.(match starts at this time)
